Maria Strandberg: Why Collaboration, Learning & R&D Matter

R&D
Maria Strandberg is the Director of the Scandinavian Turfgrass and Environment Research Foundation (STERF), the Nordic golf federations’ research body. She is also a past president of the International Turfgrass Society.
In this video, Maria draws from her years of experience to explain her best advice for the golf industry.

How can golf ensure its sustainable future?

Maria believes the industry must take the initiative and work proactively together in order to to make the changes that matter. With this in mind, her advice to the golf industry is:

  1. Collaborate with industry peers
  2. Constantly seek new knowledge, what you learnt three or four years ago might not be relevant today.
  3. Invest in research and development to meet the future needs of golf and society

"The only viable strategy for creating necessary changes for a sustainable future is collaboration"

What Syngenta thinks...

As an industry, golf has come a long way in a short space of time. Growth in the game (both on and off-course) has provided a huge boost to stakeholders, we are seeing greater diversity in customers and in those working within the industry, and new technology and innovations are entering the market at a greater speed than ever before.

But challenges persist. Not least water availability, climate change and the drive towards more sustainable practices while maintaining customer satisfaction.

For all these reasons Maria’s advice is pertinent. The only way for us as an industry to face and overcome these challenges is by working in partnership and investing in research to navigate a way towards a healthy, sustainable, vibrant industry for the long-term.
