Syngenta Golf’s sustainability docuseries, The Green Report, has released a new three-part episode filmed in Arizona, exploring how golf courses in one of the world’s most water-challenged environments are leading on sustainability.
Watch Part 1:
Responding to Water Challenges in Arizona Golf
When faced with tough new water restrictions and hostile media coverage, golf course businesses joined forces under the Arizona Alliance for Golf to successfully engage the public and policy makers on why golf was good for people, the planet and prosperity.
Golf’s impact in Arizona is significant:
- Golf courses use only 2% of the state’s water
- The industry generates more than $6 billion in economic impact annually
- Golf supports over 66,000 jobs in the state
Inside The Green Report: Arizona’s Sustainability Story
In this three-part episode, The Green Report visits Paradise Valley Country Club and Troon North Golf Club to uncover how superintendents, naturalists, owners and advocates are working together to communicate golf’s value to the community.
Highlights include:
- Rob Collins, Director of Greens and Grounds at Paradise Valley, explains the water conservation strategies in place and how he is helping share these practices with golf courses nationwide
- Naturalist Bri Kenny of Troon Golf, who takes us on a sunset tour of Troon North Golf Club, spotting road runners and bobcats, highlighting the wildlife, native plants and pollinators that thrive on desert courses.
- Course owner Gregg Tryhus and Katie Prendergast from the Arizona Alliance for Golf tell us about the work the Alliance is doing to get the facts about golf's water use and economic benefit to the community.
Speaking about the episode, Mark Birchmore, Global Head of Marketing, Turf & Landscape at Syngenta, said:
“Arizona shows how golf can turn challenges into opportunities. Courses here are proving that data-driven water management and sustainability can go hand in hand with creating green spaces that benefit both people and wildlife.”
